Anna Tihanyi, born in Budapest in 1979, grew up with the children’s encyclopedia Ablak-Zsiráf (Window-Giraffe), through which she discovered many aspects of the world.

In the latter half of the 20th century, European culture and people’s lives underwent major changes, and Hungary was no exception. Paralleling these shifts with her own personal growth and transformation, Tihanyi created a series of collage works inspired by this book. Using old printed materials and photographs, she combines personal and collective experiences and memories to construct theatrical and meticulously composed visuals. While depicting Budapest of a bygone era and simultaneously exploring her own identity, she exposes the relationship between society and the anxieties and desires that dwell deep within the human heart.
